Music & Family

Music.
it's one of those things we can't live without.

The best part about music is the feeling it evokes from you. If your having a bad day hearing your favorite song can put you back in your favorite place. It's the best with the sun shining and driving with your windows rolled down, singing your favorite song. Regardless, no one could imagine life without music, sometimes the artist says the words your thinking better than you could.

The funny part that I have realized about music, is the person I automatically think of when I hear a specific song. One of these times is whenever I hear an old Train song, Drops of Jupiter. I immediately think of my daddy.

My Dad & I in Vegas

Family is so important, it is a strange thing how much we take for granted our parents (and siblings love you asapp) when we are with them everyday and the minute we move away from home or out of their house how much more we cherish the time spent with them.

I love my family and I wouldn't be where I am without them!

BRING MTV TO ASU!!

As most of you know I have been a on-air personality for an amazing college radio station at ASU. 90.5 WASU-- The App is an amazing station in which college students get real experience in working at a radio station in a business setting.

Last year before I  came to ASU, WASU won the Coulda Shoulda Woodie Award for 2nd place as the #1 college radio station in the U.S. This year we are up again for this award.

Currently, we are in the top 10 and this is our chance to win the best college radio station of the year in the United States. This is an honor that I believe WASU deserves. The staff, and help from Dan Vallie Hill has helped each of us improve as radio personalities as well as improve the station as a whole. WASU has been around for 40 years this year and many new changes have been done to the station. Each of these changes, I believe, has given us what we need to succeed in being the #1 college radio station.

We need YOUR HELP to win! So FB friends and blog friends please go online to http://www.mtv.com/ontv/woodieawards/2012/college-radio-woodie/
to vote for 90.5 WASU The App! You can vote as many times as you want and you don't have to be a student at ASU to vote! Tell your friends and your family and help everyone involved at WASU win this award that we have worked hard for!

If your interested in learning more about the station: log on to WASURADIO.COM and download our iheartradio app at http://www.iheart.com/#/live/5250/

"It's the little things in life"

It's the little things in life that keep me going and remembering why I work so hard towards my future goals and dreams.
Many student's don't understand why some student's are so busy. Others talk down to college students and say that all we have to do is go to class. Believe me, I do much more than that.

Currently my days have been beginning around 9 am and I don't get back home again until 11 pm with hopes of maybe having an hour or so break within my day. It's stressful and at the end of the day I am exhausted and try to remember why I am doing this to myself in the first place.

The reason of college is to not only teach you life lessons and skills, but to prepare you for the "real" world so that upon graduation you can get a job. Many people just graduate and want the degree. What they lack is the experience which will ultimately get them a job in the first place. The first thing an employer will ask in an interview is "What can you do?" not "What were your grades". A degree gets your foot in the door of an interview but ultimately what will get you a job is experience and what you can do.

Before transferring to ASU I was always involved on campus in different organizations ranging from my sorority to being a tour guide on campus. I had an internship, but didn't know the equipment or the company well enough to learn everything I needed to learn.

Once transferring to ASU that quickly changed. I have only been here for a semester and going on my second semester. I am already involved in organizations that teach you skills of the industry. I am lucky enough to be involved at WASU and dj-ing on the radio. That being said, I rarely sleep. Between taking 18 hours of demanding classes, homework and projects, dj-ing at WASU, trying to learn a staff position in hopes of being on the staff next semester, and trying to emerge myself in the industry as well as having a social/home life, I am often overwhelmed and exhausted but I manage and do a good job at it.

Many people want to succeed but don't want to put in the hard work to produce success. Yes it's hard work, but at the end of the day when I graduate and get the job of my dreams I will be happy I put myself through the pain and long nights, which when I look back really won't be so bad after all.

This week as been one of those weeks that I don't have any room left to write in my agenda everything that needs to be done so I can go to Charlotte this weekend. My entire agenda is filled with writing, sticky notes, things crossed out, etc.

Yet today the little things in life kept me going and made me realize why I work so hard. I received praise from a teacher I never expected praise from, and encouragement that I am in the right direction for success. I received an email from one of my favorite radio stations that I have listened to since childhood asking me to do an internship this summer without having met me, solely based on the praise others have given me. Those are the things in life that matter. That you are working towards success for YOURSELF and others notice your potential and want to be apart of making you successful. "Its the little things in life" the praises others give you, their comments that you are in the right direction and making a name for yourself.

I am grateful for everyone who has crossed my path and continues to help me succeed in this industry.

When you feel down and overwhelmed remember someone is recognizing your hard work and appreciates it. Work hard for yourself to reach your dreams. Make sure to leave a lasting impression on those who cross your path--- you never know that the little praise they give you will land you the opportunity of a life time.

WASU

Transferring to so many different schools as allowed me to become not only adaptable but able to become apart of amazing organizations that continue to teach me different life-skills in general and within the industry that I long to be apart of. One of the organization's I have been lucky enough to join at Appalachian State University is their college radio station WASU. Not only does WASU have an amazing general manager that has been within the industry and strives to teach us all of his knowledge about the industry, it also allows students to be able to DJ on the radio and work in staff positions just as we would within the industry.

Anyone who goes to ASU and has an interest within the Electronic Media industry and learning about the radio industry specifically should attend the interest meeting tomorrow night (Feb 2, 2012) at 7 pm in the table rock room of the student union.

WASU is one of the most well known college radio stations and has recently been added to iHeartradio along with 13 other college radio stations. I am so glad to finally be at a university that has such a specific program and has professors and professionals to learn from.

Listen to me live on WASU on Wednesday's from 4-5 pm and Thursday's 5-6 pm every week. You can long on to wasurocks.com and listen live!

Lastly, I just want to thank my parents for always being supportive and supporting me in all the dreams I have every had and will have in the future. Not everyone can be that lucky.

"Where did you transfer from?"

I'm new in this whole blogging world but I thought I would give it a try. My life truly isn't the interesting to me but I'll let you be the judge.
The question I have gotten most frequently since I have transferred to Appalachian State University is where did you transfer from? I have gotten this question so many times I have an answer rehearsed and memorized.
"I transferred from University of North Carolina Charlotte" I always reply. The next question always is why did you not like Charlotte? "I love Charlotte" I always say, "lived there most of my life". Then they start talking about all the pro's of living in the mountains, yet it never fails that someone mentions living by the beach. I always tell them, really its not that great where do you have to vacation too? Then they look at me like I'm crazy because I just said I lived in Charlotte the majority of my life. Then I have go to into well... I also went to University of North Carolina Wilmington as well, my freshman year. I can see the wheels turning in their heads trying to put together how many schools I've been to and exactly what year I am in school.

Yes I am a senior that has transferred 2 times, been to three schools ranging from the coast to the city to the mountains. What can I say I'm hard to please.

But most people don't understand the real reason for all of my moves and life changes.
Each place that I have lived has taught me something different and taken me on a new adventure.

While living in Wilmington, I first changed my life by joining Chi Omega. I know many people think sororities are stupid and we "pay for our friends". But I would have not met some of the most amazing people and made such amazing memories if I had not found a passion within Chi Omega. Chi Omega at UNCW also introduced me to one of my best friends, Caroline Jerger, but for anyone who has ever heard me talk about her probably never knew her name was Caroline its just JERGER. While at UNCW I just never felt like that was where I was meant to be. I ended up applying and transferring back to Charlotte
 Jerger & I- Spring 2009 at UNCW

While at UNCC I also found a new love within Chi Omega and amazing friends. I met three of my best friends and littles: Allison, Britt, and Miranda <3 At UNCC I was a psychology major, a business major, and the list goes on but I could never find anything I was passionate about until I took a communications class. I absolutely fell in love and I knew that was my passion. After finally figuring out what I wanted to major in I took all of the classes necessary. I did an internship at NBC Universal which solidified this was my dream in life, to do anything broadcasting. I wanted to be a face and voice people recognized. Unfortunately I did not pass a class and was dropped from the communications program. All anyone at UNCC could tell me was pick another major. I decided I would have to follow my dreams where ever they guided me and that so happened to be in the mountains a place I never saw myself.
My amazing Chi Omega Family (aka best friends) at UNCC

I transferred to App State and moved to Boone in august of this year. I am lucky enough to have such an amazing boyfriend who also wants me to be happy and follow my dreams so he moved to Boone with me. I decided on App State for 1 reason: they have an AMAZING communications program. They had the exact major that I wanted, and have an amazing on campus radio station that is taking me on another ride of a life time! (check it out at WASUROCKS.COM)
My amazing boyfriend Tim & I

I never thought I could be so happy in the mountains but sometimes I wonder why life didn't bring me here sooner.

So.. That's the whole reason I am now at my third school and FINALLY going to stay in 1 place and graduate (hopefully, super senior status).
